The Buzz from the Bardette: Shows You Must See This Easter

Easter is fast approaching so let’s take a look at what egg-cellent shows you can catch up with this weekend… #sorrynotsorry

First up its Harvey at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. You can’t get more Eastery than a 6ft invisible rabbit in this brilliant comedy starring James Dreyfus and Maureen Lipman. Elwood P. Dowd has an imaginary rabbit friend called Harvey, his sister Veta takes him to a psychiatrist but mistakenly gets committed herself which starts a hilarious path of chaos and confusion as everyone tries to catch Elwood and his invisible rabbit. Book your Harvey tickets now.

The Lion King… ok maybe lions aren’t the most Easter related but they can be quite cute and fluffy.. Ok let’s be honest it’s just a great one for the kids this Easter break! Based on the Disney favourite, Tim Rice and Elton John’s musical hit at the Lyceum Theatre is still charming audiences of this much loved tale. The puppetry is incredible and definitely a favourite amongst audiences both young and old, a really enjoyable Easter delight.

On the note of cute and fluffy, let’s look at some chicks on stage - some pretty powerful chicks - in Made In Dagenham (tenuous link?) ok so maybe not cute and fluffy but more sassy and gutsy and its sadly coming to an end on the 11th April. This was a refreshing treat when it opened in the West End last year, Gemma Arterton leads a sensational cast championing equal pay for the women at the Ford Factory. With great catchy songs, a fabulous set and an empowering story, they simply ask you to ‘Stand up and put your hand up’… and head to the Adelphi Theatre this Bank Holiday before it closes.

We also can’t go without mentioning Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. A choc-tastic, fun filled show directed by Sam Mendes that brings this Roald Dahl classic to life. Complete with a great glass elevator, Oompa Loompas and the eccentric Willy Wonka, this deliciously dark story about Charlie Bucket and group of misfortunate children is not to be missed. The lucky 5 have each won a golden ticket to visit the chocolate factory that holds many wonders, delights and the chance to receive a lifetime of chocolate but everything isn’t as sweet as it seems… Let it lead you into a world of pure imagination.

Have a theatre filled Easter week!
