REVIEW: Matilda (in exactly 250 words)

Matilda is just sheer awesome. It's one of those shows that you see and then immediately want to see again. If you like Roald Dahl, musicals and fun, you will fall in love with this show.

There are no slow moments in Matilda; it keeps you engaged and enjoying yourself from the moment the lights come up to the final bow. The music is great within the show, although not quite at the level where you'd binge-listen to it afterwards. 'When I Grow Up' is (of course) a fantastic number. The staging for Matilda is another highlight of the show. It is so inventive and really draws you into the story. The lighting is spot on (pun intended) and brings the show to life.

The cast of Matilda is phenomenal. Lilian Hardy played the role of Matilda when I saw the show and her performance was stunning; she is clear, likeable, suitably intense and has a great voice. The whole child cast is amazingly talented. The adult cast is equally impressive; particularly impressive is Craige Els, who plays the role of Miss Trunchbull (don't ask, it just works).

Tickets to see Matilda can be bought from London Theatre Direct starting at only £24, although you'd be more likely to spend upwards of £60. It's quite an expensive show, but it is so worth it. So make sure that you catch Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre – this is such a staple West End show, you've just got to see it.
