Monty Python legend Michael Palin joins Spamalot

From the 26th to the 31st of August, Monty Python fans will be in for a treat at The Playhouse Theatre as Michael Palin appears as God in Spamalot.

In a special guest appearance, intended to raise money for charity, the comedian, actor, writer, television presenter, explorer and original Monty Python star will be taking over Eric Idle’s role as god in SPAMALOT. Palin has chosen Action for Stammering Children as his nominated charity.

Michael Palin was not the only star to offer a unique spin on the character as other celebrities have also joined in the name of raising money for charity. Barbara Windsor, Christopher Biggins, Hugh Bonneville, Larry Lamb and Bradley Walsh have all recorded thier own version of the character.

Monty Python's Spamalot is a musical comedy "lovingly ripped off from" the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Like the film, it is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend. One of the musical’s creators, Eric Idle explained that the title comes from a line in the movie: "we eat ham, and jam and Spam a lot."

Spamalot producers have also announced that the show will be extended until February 2014. Other to stars have confirmed they will be involved in the show in the near future include Warwick Davis, star of Star Wars and An idiot abroad. Davis joins as Patsy and is set to star from September 23rd until mid October.
