Tony Britton, star of the much-loved television series, Don't Wait Up, has passed away.

Tony Britton has sadly passed away aged 95. Born in 1924 in Birmingham, Britton attended school there before fighting in World War II. Though he is perhaps more widely known for his film and television roles, including The Day of the Jackal (1973), Operation Amsterdam (1959), BBC's Don't Wait Up (1983-1990) alongside Dinah Sheridan and Nigel Havers, and Robin's Nest (1977-1981), Britton had also frequently trodden the boards.

His most notable stage credits include multiple productions at the Theatre Royal Bath in the late 1990s, Royal Shakespeare Company productions of Henry V and Twelfth Night, and most recently the Earl of Gloucester in the Old Vic gala production of King Lear (2013).

Britton has three children, all of whom work in the entertainment industry - TV presenter Fern Britton (who reported his death to the news over the weekend), screenwriter Poppy Britton, and actor Jasper Britton, who was announced to be starring in the upcoming Boulevard Theatre production of The Sunset Limited.
